I noticed this weekend- I am a major mean butt.  I mean psycho-ish  when someone ticks me off since I have had surgery. Here's an example- I took my 2 year old to go potty; I was in the middle of eating yogurt...came out and my yogurt was gone.  I freaked out, I felt like I literally wanted to smack the person who threw it away  I'm not usually like this, and I could have gone and gotten more if I really wanted to have more...but I was just so irritated.  I don't remember if this is normal after surgery to have almost what I would describe as mood swings.  I mean it wasn't mostly related to food- I had a lovely vent about how our two adopted kids walk all over us and are disrespectful and I bust my butt doing something I dislike so I can support them.  Crazy- though I can say honestly looking back some of the things are bottled up emotions and some are just crazy irrational moments.  I decided I will take my energy to the gym today...but YIKES  it scared me at how mean I was. Hoping I can get better control of myself.  They only time I can remember feeling this way was when I was pregnant (and no I'm not) and supplementing my hormones with progesterone because it was too low.  Ugh. Oh- and yes I mean since my revision 2 weeks ago.

Hang in there. In Overeaters Anon, we always had a saying "if you want to know what you're eating over, put down the fork and it will become really clear". Post-op we're living without your best line of defense (at least I am), food! How many times did we stuff down our feelings or that rude/judgemental thing that we wanted to say? If I feel myself getting irritated, I start my mental gratitude list. They say it's impossible to be hateful while we're experiencing gratitude. Try thinking of something that you appreciate about that person that you'd like to clobber.

I'm sorry you're going through a rough patch. Maybe your doc would have some suggestions?

You just had a revision, right?  Remember, we store hormones in our fat cells and when we lose weight quickly, they are released in higher doses than normal.

Just realize that's probably what it is - before saying anything count to 10... realize its just hormones and it does pass!

I get like that during my period at times - especially if I've got some issues bothering me - they seem to exacerbate during that time.  During the rest of the month, they don't seem to be quite as bad...

I would be pissed too!  How dare anyone mess with our food!  I'm the same way.  My husband started to take my plate last night and I almost laid across it.  We laughed about it, but I've never been that possessive.  I eat on schedule, and very little food, so don't want anyone messing with my meals!

Thanks everyone--- I think it is just the hormones talking as they are brought about with the weight loss.

Yep sounds like you are releasing massive amounts of hormones!  Take pride in the fact that you are able to recognize it too!  I didn't and became very verbally abusive towards my oldest daughter.  In hind sight I know what was causing it!  If I had been active on the LW board at the time I probably would have caught onto what was happening.  So stick with us and we'll help you keep your sanity....it's ok  to come here and gripe about the stupidity of the people around you here........LOL  I feel horribly for what I've said and wish I had not hurt my daughter in the way I did.....I can't take it back now......WE did finally realize that much of the emotional outbursts from BOTH of us were mentrually related too.......we made it a rule that if one of us asks the other if it's almost that time of the month ......and it is......we can't be upset with the others emotional instability.......It stinks...and I'm glad you are here to have some guidance through these emotional times!
